AMD launches the most powerful chip for data centers

AMD announced on Thursday that cloud computing services from Google, Microsoft, and Oracle will utilize its most recent chip for data centers.

Lisa Sue, the CEO of the company, stated that the EPYC processor of the fourth generation, codenamed Genoa, will significantly enhance performance and energy efficiency in comparison to the previous chip.

Su stated that organizations and cloud data centers gain from these features.in terms of how it lowers total ownership costs, operating costs, and financial costs.

The Genoa chip send off comes as AMD's US rival, Intel, battles to convey its most recent server farm chips, codenamed Sapphire Rapids, to clients sooner rather than later.

According to analyst Bob O'Donnell of TECHnalysis Research, "AMD has made a huge leap in performance not just against Apple, but also against the previous generation, making the growth potential of any AMD-based solution all the more realistic."

In 2017, AMD introduced its first EPYC data center chip. Since then, AMD has steadily surpassed Intel in market share, which has resulted in significant advancements, particularly with cloud service providers.

IDC, a research company, says that AMD's market share of x86 chips used by cloud services increased from zero in 2016 to around 29% in 2017.One of the semiconductor industry's biggest growth areas is cloud computing and its services.

IDC Data Center and Cloud Analyst Ashish Nadkarni stated, "IDC expects AMD to stay on the right track and continue to raise market share in public cloud deployments."
