In 2022, (Elastic Security Labs) published its first report on security threats. It focused on malware that targets the Windows and (Linux) operating systems, which makes sense given that the majority of known malware targets these systems. However, the interesting findings were on macOS.

Given Apple's strong focus on security, the fact that only 6.2% of malware targets macOS and 39.4% of malware targets Windows is not surprising.



However, it's surprising that just one app was the source of nearly half of all malware targeting macOS.According to company researchers, the MacKeeper app is responsible for more than 48% of malware that targets macOS.Ironically, the MacKeeper application was developed to effortlessly maintain your Mac's cleanliness and safety.
